Parents whose children join the children's co-operative for 2 years 9 month-5 year olds, practice mindfulness or loving kindness-practice, in our parent practice room on a rotating basis 1 or 2 days per month during the children's co-operative. The parent's day at the mindfulness co-operative is from 9 am to 2 pm. It includes 2, 45 minute periods of sitting meditation in our shine room while the children play in the playroom, 1 period of walking meditation, 2 meditative yogi jobs, and 2 periods of warm twinkly quiet eating meditation with the children.
Instruction in mindfulness and loving kindness practice are available for parents in classes during the year, and if desired in brief interview sessions during your co-op day as part of your participation in the program. Many parents already have a meditation practice or yoga pracitice and do their own type of practice on their co-op days. We also have many parents new to meditation.
Parents also participate as families, with their children, in community celebrations and festivals throughout the year including a fall harvest party, a winter lantern walk to celebrate the children's inner light, a loving-kindness, "metta" maypole festival, and a beach picnic. There are also big brother or sister ceremonies and a community baby blessing ceremony whenever a new baby is born.
